What We Do

We build tools and content around two core promises:

• Help you find your animal sign accurately, using the lunar calendar, so January and February birthdays are matched to the correct lunar year, not just the Gregorian year. Start with the zodiac calculator.

Our Approach

We take cultural accuracy seriously. The Chinese zodiac follows the lunar calendar, so our zodiac calculator uses precise Lunar New Year dates for 1980–2030 and approximated boundaries for 1900–1979 and 2031–2100 (clearly flagged in the years chart). Where traditions differ (Lunar New Year vs LiChun as the year boundary) we document both but use the Lunar New Year rule consistently across the site.

We also take the cultural-entertainment boundary seriously. The zodiac is a cultural and symbolic system, not a science, and our content is written in that spirit: as a framework for reflection, not as a prediction of personality, fate or relationship outcomes. Every horoscope page carries a disclaimer to that effect, and our language avoids deterministic phrasing ("you will definitely", "this relationship will fail") in favour of reflective phrasing ("may feel", "is traditionally associated with").

Who We Are

ChineseZodiac is an independent project. The site is researched, written and maintained by the ChineseZodiac Editorial Team, a small group of writers, researchers and developers interested in making Chinese cultural frameworks more accessible to English-speaking users without flattening them into generic horoscope content. Our team includes contributors with backgrounds in Chinese cultural studies, folklore research and cross-cultural communication. All content undergoes editorial review before publication.

The technical foundation is modern static web (Astro + Tailwind), the content is original, and the design is built around a modern Chinese cultural aesthetic: deep red, gold, ivory and ink, restrained rather than maximalist. The zodiac calculation engine uses precise Lunar New Year dates backed by a 1900–2100 year boundary table, with approximations clearly flagged.

What We Are Not

We are not a scientific source on personality or fate. We are not a substitute for professional relationship counselling, medical advice, or financial guidance. We are not an exhaustive encyclopedia of Chinese culture; we are a focused site about the Chinese zodiac, and we link out to broader sources where useful. And we are not a fixed-rule system: the zodiac is best read as a cultural reflection tool, and that is how we present it.

Content Standards

Every page on this site is written to a set of internal standards: a clear search intent answered directly, structured data for quick reference, real FAQ questions (not filler for schema), internal links to related pages, and a disclaimer where appropriate. We use consistent terminology across the site (see our terminology notes) and we update pages as traditions or our understanding of them evolve. Pages carry a "Last updated" date so you can see when content was last reviewed.
